Technical Questions/Answers:

Q. Can REWSStools® monitor our roamers?

A. Yes, from numerous perspectives. Several different NSS measurements are available which assist operators using Nokia's mobile switching platform to monitor foreign roamer registrations as well as an operator's own subscribers who are roaming abroad. In addition, certain alarms are also used as an indicator of problems with roamers who are attempting to register on the switch but failing to do so.

Monitoring of roamers if essential on any mobile network. Currently the DXtool for Nokia & the AXEtool for Ericsson both provide ample reports for monitoring all statistical information relevant to roamers. We are currently working to enhance both the AAtool & DMStool to include more functionality for monitoring roamers.

Q. How long does it take to install (implement) REWSStools® ?

A. The time required to install the REWSStools® server and get the system up and running will vary for each operator. It is directly dependent upon the number of network switching elements which will be monitored as well as the physical layout of the switch rooms which house the switching equipment. The REWSS server itself is practically plug-n-play, but some switching equipment (i.e. Ericsson switches) require configuration as well. For those networks where an IP based backbone is not available, then laying down the cables for each element will be the most time consuming phase.

Under normal circumstances a Test Installation machine can be installed and running within a couple of hours because the number of elements to be connected is usually 1 or 2 while the physical location of the server is usually situated somewhere close by.

Q. Which switching platforms are supported by REWSStools®?

A. Currently the REWSStools® will support switching platforms by Nokia, Ericsson, Alcatel & Nortel. However, development has already begun to include support for other platforms in the near future.

Q. Will any part of our switching equipment be adversely affected by connecting the REWSStools® server?

A. Absolutely not. Installing the REWSStools® server will not have any adverse effects on the performance of any switching element what-so-ever.

Q. Does REWSStools® require access from a dedicated workstation?

A. No. User friendliness was given great consideration when designing REWSStools® and for this reason a web-based user interface was implemented. All interaction between the user and REWSStools® is accomplished through a common web browser. Any user can login from any terminal connected to the operator's local intranet using MSIE 4+

Q. Can access to the data returned by REWSStools® be controlled/limited for different users?

A. Yes. Each installation of REWSStools® is assigned an administrator login. This administrator is then free to create as many groups and users (and other administrators) as necessary and assign each various read/write privileges for using REWSStools® .

Q. Our business has particular needs unique to others. Can REWSStools® be modified to meet our specific requirements?

A. REWSS places great emphasis on customer satisfaction and hence we pride ourselves on being flexible enough to provide as many special modifications as possible when a client asks for them.

A. The unique set of REWSStools® capabilities contributes to every service provider's business and will improve the network return of investment. Real world cases will affirm time and again that REWSStools® is not just "another tool", but an important asset for your operation with rapid ROI.

Q. How can REWSStools® generate revenue for our business?

A. REWSStools® is designed to monitor the switching equipment 24/7 and prevent an operator from losing potential revenue through early identification of problems on the network, thus allowing quick resolution of the fault before it propagates into something larger.

Q. How long before REWSStools® will pay for itself (ROI)?

A. Experience from current installations has proven that the financial investment in REWSStools® can be recovered within 6-12 months, although some operators have found that REWSStools® has paid for itself within 3-6 months.

Q. How can we get a demonstration of REWSStools® ?

A. REWSS offers online demonstrations of REWSStools® directly over the Internet upon request. Just contact our sales department to arrange a date & time as well as receive a personal login & password.

Q. Can we try before we buy?

A. Yes. In fact this is a concept which REWSS supports and promotes whole-heartedly. Our online demonstration is a great introduction but most operators would like to see the product running on their own network before making any final decisions. Just contact our sales department to arrange a date & time. (We recommend an online demonstration first before setting up a test installation at the operator's location.)

Q. How much does REWSStools® cost?

A. The purchase price of REWSStools® will vary for each operator as it is directly dependent upon the number of switching elements to be monitored as well as the type of switching platforms. For more information, just contact the REWSS sales department.

Miscellaneous Questions/Answers:

Q. What are the key benefits of REWSStools®?

A. Firstly, REWSStools® simplifies the way one looks at the switch. All of today's switching platforms generate a tremendous amount of data which is useful if you have the time to sift through and interpret it all. In the real world however, few of us do. Hence much of this data passes by without so much as a glance. REWSStools® was designed to gather all this data, summarize it, and present it back to us from various perspectives through brief reports and visual charts, thus making it fast & simple to maintain an informative overview of network performance and to easily notice any changes.

Second, REWSStools® is intelligent enough to not only summarize all this data, but also to identify patterns within that are indicative of potential problems existing on the network. Once such a pattern has been located, REWSStools® can immediately draw attention to it by alerting staff members, thus promoting a quick resolution to the problem.

Q. What is the meaning of the term "Intelligent Call & Alarm Monitor"?

A. This phrase makes reference to REWSStools®'s ability to monitor the vast amounts of alarm, release code, and measurement data that is output from the switch and intelligently identify any patterns which are indicative of potential problems existing on the network.

Q. What do you mean by the term "Proactive Network Troubleshooting"?

A. With REWSStools® continuously monitoring the data output from the switch and alerting staff to any potential problems, your switch technicians will be able to troubleshoot the network and resolve problems before they can noticeably degrade network performance and services provided to subscribers.

Q. Which of our staff is REWSStools® developed for?

A. The informative, concise reports combined with the easy-to-read graphical charts make REWSStools® an invaluable application for any staff member including management to understand at a glance how the network is performing.

In addition, rules can be tailor made which will allow REWSStools® to watch for and pick out specific patterns indicative of a certain type of problem. Once identified, REWSStools® can alert members of a specific group or multiple groups to the problem found. This can be a very useful feature for non-technical staff members such as wholesale, marketing or customer service groups.

Q. How will REWSStools® enhance the performance of our technical staff?

A. REWSStools® will stand guard and monitor all of the vast amounts of alarm, release code & measurement data output from the switch 24/7 and will take everything into consideration without exception. This will ensure that your technicians will be aware of any problems earlier rather than later thus promoting a "Proactive Network Troubleshooting" environment.

Also, secure in the knowledge that REWSStools® is at work monitoring the data being output from the switch and ready to send out alerts when potential problems are identified, your technicians will have much of their time freed up to undertake other mission critical tasks.

Q. How can REWSStools® help our management team in the day-to-day operation of our business?

A. Managers with or without technical expertise on the various switching platforms will be able to conveniently maintain an informative overview of the network's performance on their own timetable without dependency upon scheduled reports submitted from technical staff.

Q. Why is there so much emphasis on the charts & visual indicators in REWSStools®?

A. Tabular presentations of numerical data are invaluable when it is necessary to delve deep into the information and understand exactly what is happening, but in order to quickly and easily gain an overall perspective or to identify trends in the data, the tool of choice is often a visual one. Charts and visual indicators make it easy to see how values change over time, and change in performance is often the first indication that a problem has arisen which needs to be addressed.

Furthermore, charts and graphs are great time savers. Rather than wasting valuable time sorting through huge amounts of data, a good chart can help to dramatically narrow down the search.

Q. Does REWSS offer other services/products?

A. Yes. DXaudit & AXEaudit are 2-4 week audit of the Nokia & Ericsson networks respectively, primarily in terms of network optimization and fault analysis. REWSS will be on site at the operator and work "hands on" with the switch engineers in order to monitor the network. When the audit is completed, an evaluation report will give a clear picture of the network's performance. The evaluation will offer suggestions and recommend actions to be taken to enhance the network's performance.

REWSS is currently working on putting together similar audits for Alcatel & Nortel networks.
